Dino Lingo Language Learning Program for Kids

So I recently had the opportunity to try out these new Dino Lingo language learning programs for kids DVD's with my daughter. We were given the options of trying Spanish, Chinese, or Italian thanks to Influenster. We however chose to go to the company's website and try out Japanese instead. I was given access to the lessons for free as being a member (which is also free to join, no fees ever) of Influenster. Anyone can go on the Dino Lingo site though and access mini lessons in all the languages they offer. I must say it was pretty cute although the animations are not cutting edge or mind blowing. If it's interesting enough to keep my toddler's attention though then that's good enough for me lol. Just from the 3.5 minute preview she already picked up a few words in Japanese. I liked how along with the word being said they also had it spelled out. This is NICE since it shows me what the word consists of to better help her pronounce things. We also looked at the Korean one but the words there were spelled out using the Korean lettering so I couldn't understand a thing. Luckily the Japanese has the lettering us English speakers are used to making it worlds easier. If it didn't I would be hard pressed to purchase it. That's why the Korean idea is scrapped. I will however be purchasing the Japanese version for her since we are planning a trip there in the coming years. I'll update once we make some progress to let you know how it continues to go :) Check out there sites because there are TONS of languages.

I've found my passion in a boutique-style accessories company called Stella & Dot. What I love most about representing the Stella & Dot line is that people absolutely adore the jewelry. I also love that I get to work with people like you and that a Stella & Dot Trunk Show is so much fun, and simple, too. It's wonderful to see women taking well-deserved time to indulge in a little style and friendship, two of my favorite things!

You may have seen the line featured in InStyle, Lucky, People, Glamour, or Oprah. The line is not available in stores and includes semi-precious stones, sterling silver and gold heirloom pieces. There are also lots of trend setting styles in the $40 range...what a steal!

I would love to help you host a Stella & Dot Trunk Show with your girlfriends. It’s a great way to share a glass of wine and a laugh, while shopping for a fashionable jewelry wardrobe. Influenster Relaunch & their 2012 Naturals VoxBox

Influenster's 2012 Naturals VoxBox

So Influenster has had a reboot of their site recently. I like it so far although it takes some getting used to if you are used to the old ways. I like how fast everything is and how quickly the badges activate but there are some confusing parts too. Like I didn't know I was limited on the amount of expert badges I could get. I am sure it said it on there somewhere but I must have missed it. I went through filling them out without really picking my favorites and am now stuck with some I may not have necessarily chosen had I known. Oh well not the end of the world though.
There is an overwhelming amount of things you can do now, and a new point system has been added. I'm on the fence about that one currently. We'll see how it goes though. I am just trying to get used to all the changes. The site is FAST now though I'll say that.

I also wanted to say that the most recent VoxBox that I have received was the 2012 Naturals VoxBox. You may have already seen my reviews on it's contents. Inside was a variety of products that are supposed to be "green" or organic in nature. This was probably the least exciting box I've gotten so far but you can't complain about free stuff lol. I have a picture posted about showing the contents which are as follows: The Original Dish Drying Mat, Lypsyl LypMoisturizer, EBoost Beverage Powder, CleanWell Hand Sanitizer Wipe, GeoDeo Deodorant, Nectresse Sweetener, and SheaMoisture Baby Bar Soap. For detailed reviews on these please see the corresponding blog entries :) Hope they help!

CleanWell Natural Hand Sanitizer Wipes

In the Influenster 2012 Naturals VoxBox I received a CleanWell Hand Sanitizer Wipe. It's a one time use packet that kills germs with all natural ingredients. It smelled pretty good. I think it worked well but seeing as I had no way to test for germs I can't say if it killed them or not. But it was a good hand/face wipe. I liked that it was in an individual packet travel form which is convenient for purses or diaper bags.
At retail a box of 50 wipes is a whopping $30. I don't know but this seems very high to me. I know it's all natural but I wouldn't pay it. It's too pricey for me. I'll stick to Purell and the like.

*I received this product free of charge from Influenster in exchange for my feedback.

SheaMoisture Baby Bar Soap

In tbe Influenster 2012 Natural Vox Box I received the SheaMoisture Baby Bar Soap. It's a really nice bar of soap. It's very moisturizing and worked great for my toddler and I. It is enriched with unrefined "raw" shea butter, argan oil, chamomile extract, frankincense, and myrrh. Another great thing is it's sulfate free so it's pretty gentle for children and even babies. It naturally soothes inflammation, irritation, and itching associated with eczema. We don't typically have eczema in our family but we do live in an area where the winter can be HARSH which equals dry skin. This is a welcome addition to our fight against winter itch.
It retails for $4.99 for a 5oz bar which I think is a great price point and it is worth the price. This is a GOOD BUY.

EBoost Powdered Drink

I received EBoost in the Influenster 2012 Naturals VoxBox that was sent to me. It's an easy to mix powder that you can add to water. It comes in 4 flavors, Orange, Pink Lemonade, Acai Pomegranate, and Super Berry. I got the orange flavor. It didn't taste bad, but from the color I guess I was hoping for it to taste like Tang lol. It was more like a really bland version if at all. It's the 80's kid in me I guess. It's supposed to help boost mood, focus, and immunity with natural ingredients and no crash. It worked somewhat, but in my opinion it wasn't as successful as a cup of coffee. If you need to avoid caffeine though this would be a good substitute.
The HUGE drawback in my mind is the price. It's kind of crazy to me. $28 for a box of 20 powder packets, $39 for 30, and $39 for a box of 12 in a drinkable shot form. Too pricey for me, I'll stick to coffee and in extreme emergency cases Red Bull.

The Original Dish Drying Mat

Another product I received in the Influenster 2012 Naturals VoxBox was The Original Dish Drying Mat. It's a pretty neat thing. It's used to places dishes on or to put your dish rack on top of and it's supposed to absorb the water that comes off the dishes. It's supposed to be eco- friendly by conserving energy and paper towels by air drying, and saves water by hand washing. I don't know about all that but it did do a good job absorbing water. I can see how it would save paper towels but if you are going to use the dishwasher there is no need to take them out and do something else since the water can just go to the bottom of the washer. I don't usually use a dish mat by the way. I have a double sink so I just put the dish rack in the sink I don't use and the excess water just goes down the drain. If I did need a dish mat though, this one would be great. It absorbs well like I said and drys fast after the fact. I wish it came in more color options but I am sure as I am typing this they are already coming up with that.
It retails for $4.99 which is a steal I think. You can't beat that price and it's a good product if you need a dish mat. It's a GOOD BUY for those who use mats.

*I received this item free of charge in exchange for my feedback.

LypSyl Intense Protection LypMoisturizer

So I received the 2012 Naturals VoxBox from Influenster and one of the products inside was the Lypsyl LypMoisturizer. I was really happy to receive a product like this because I have a toddler who is prone to chapped lips so I love anything that can help with that.
The first thing I noticed was the cute packaging. On the side there is a little bee which you use to move the the lip balm up and down. LOVE IT. Makes sense since it's made with Swedish Beeswax. It also contains organic shea butter, and vitamins A and E.
The product worked great. It wasn't greasy or too heavy feeling. I liked it and would buy it again. It retails for $2.87-$2.99 which is pretty reasonable I think. So my final verdict is it is a GOOD BUY.

*I received this item free of charge in exchange for my feedback.

Sign My Petition Against Gender Pricing Discrimination

Chromosomes are not reason enough for something to cost more when it is practically the same thing. So many "women's" products cost more for no apparent reason. Things like razors and body wash are a dollar to several dollars more just because they are pink or because they smell like a flower instead of musk. Several other states, including New York, have passed similar laws protecting consumers and it's time Illinois had the same protection. If something truly cost more to make then by all means I can understand why it would cost more, but there are several products that are the same just different color or in different gender based packaging that are priced more just because they know we have no choice and will pay for it. This is not for women alone. There are several "men's" products and services priced higher than the same products and services for women. We need equality and fairness in our pricing. We can not let manufacturers and brands get away with this.

eSalon At Home Hair Coloring

So I recently came across a new company called eSalon. Their company says things like "Finally, achieve salon quality hair color results yourself!", "Hair color made just for you...from our lab to your home.", and "A complete salon experience at home.". These are pretty bold claims in my book. I live for my trips to the salon. I love the pampering, and the feeling of fresh new hair. The salon is amazing if you have one you love and a great stylist at the helm. I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful stylist who I've been using for years now. There is one thing I don't enjoy about the salon though...the price you have to pay for all those amazing feelings. I mean I get why it costs so much. Stylists need to live too, and you are paying for their skill and expertise. I mean don't let me near anyone with a pair of shears. But still knowing all that, times are tough all around so if I can find a way to save money and still get awesome looking hair, sign me up!
So I decided to give this eSalon a whirl. They typically have promotions running for new clients. Click any of my eSalon links to get 50% off your first order. After that your shipment would cost $19.95 for the basic route or $24.95 to get the color enhancing gloss method. I opted for the color enhancing route since I dye my hair red which is one of the most difficult colors to keep on your hair. It can often end up fading and looking not so nice if you are not careful. So even at $24.95 that beats the $70+ I have to pay at the salon not including tip or what it costs to cut. So far we are winning.
First thing they have you do is answer some questions about you and your hair. Like what you usually do to it, what's it's natural color/texture, have you done anything chemically to it recently, what are you trying to achieve, your ethnicity, etc. Then you upload some photos of yourself so the stylists at eSalon can see what they are working with. I liked this part because I feel like it would give them a sense of who I am/what I look like and that would help them formulate the best medley of ingredients for me. Very smart.
My kit I received.

The box arrived with just about everything you need to properly color your hair. All the formulations with your name printed along with the date, personalized instructions with your name on them and everything, 2 pairs of gloves, brush, dye removal cloth, conditioner, and the stuff to put around your hair line so the dye doesn't stain your skin. See everything....well...almost. You don't get any hair clips. They give you the option to buy them separately with a color bowl and some other stuff I don't really think you need but the clips would have been nice. I think they should give you the clips free the first time and then it's up to you to clean them and save them for next time or else you have to purchase them again. It's not really a big deal though.
Okay so I followed my personal directions I was given and went to work. I guess that would be another drawback to eSalon, you actually have to do it yourself lol. No pampering here lol. But what you put in work wise you make up for in money remember. It really wasn't hard to do. The instructions made things clear. You just have to take your time. I ended up getting all the way through it without staining or ruining anything. No real mess at all other than the small area I had designated for setting the bottles down between strips of hair. So far so good. Here are a few photos I took during the process...
Before: You can see my roots were coming back in brown - BOO!

The length before. Kinda dull and washed out. Sorry for the rats nest of curls lol.

After I applied to the roots.
Now roots and length have had their separate mixtures applied. Time to wait. Tick tick tick....

So it seems simple enough right? But no one cares about most of this, we just wanna see the final product. Did it work? Did it do all that it said they would? Is this truly a replacement for salon dyed hair? Well.....
After Roots - Lighter, not brown, and shiny!
After Length - Vibrant, bright, and shiny!

I dare say that IT IS!!!! I was shocked! It worked and I feel like it's closer to what I wanted then what I had been getting at the salon. The conditioner they provided was great, it made my hair feel like silk. I naturally have curlier hair so when I can get silky straightness I am overjoyed. They keep track of your exact formulation too so it will always come out the same. Sometimes at the salon that doesn't happen, it varies depending on how they choose to mix it up that time. I feel like I am cheating on my stylist but I like feeling naughty sometimes lol. I will still need to go in for cuts and and treatments of course, but now I can color my own hair for so much less! I just knocked close to a hundred bucks off the bill(with tip)! It's better than the box color too because this is salon quality stuff made just for me, not for the "every woman". I want to point out by the way that I AM NOT A PAID SPOKESPERSON, ENDORSED, OR COMPENSATED BY THIS COMPANY IN ANY WAY NOR AM I AN EMPLOYEE OR PROFESSIONAL STYLIST . I am just a regular person with no hair industry experience aside from doing my own hair. I loved this product so much that I thought I'd shout it to the world. Anyway I recommend giving this a shot if you like to have your hair dyed. They have a wide range of colors. I was worried too since I tend to like an edgier sort of red but this was spot on for me. I hope it works out for you too :) Here is a link!

‘“imPRESS Press On Manicure"

Yay! Another FREE product I got to try thanks to the folks at Influenster and the imPRESS Press On Manicure people :) I love me some manicure/nail products.  So this time around we have the "imPRESS Press On Manicure" by Broadway Nails. I will start off by saying I was pretty skeptical about this product. I mean we all know how fluky press on nails can be. Not so with this product. It actually turned out to be really good. I got the "Velvet Rope" color picture above.
These nails were extremely easy to apply. They come with a small wipe to use on your natural nails before hand. Once you have selected the right size for all your nails, you wipe them down, remove the covers over the sticky part and press them on. That's it. It's nice that each nail already has the adhesive on each one already in the right spot. No fumbling around. The product said they can last up to a week. I thought they would last through the day. I got a good full 3 days out of them which included showers, hair washing, and hand washing dishes. They stood their ground. I think they could have hung on even longer too I just decided I wanted them off. The length was perfect too I thought. They weren't too short but weren't diva long. I barely noticed they were on which is good. I do plan on buying some for an upcoming wedding. I want to get one of the interesting patterns they have since my dress is black and the nails will stand out nicely. I recommend these. Just make sure you follow the directions and you are good to go!

“The Many Uses of Ivory”

So as part of the recent Mom VoxBox that I just got from Influenster I was given a bar of... Ivory Soap! Exciting isn't it? Well actually it turned out to be. I received everything in the Mom VoxBox for free by the way in exchange for my thoughts and feedback. Okay so back to the soap, everyone knows what it's used for, getting rid of your body funk in the bath/shower. There were some other uses though that I was surprised to come across during this review period. Here are a few:
  • Facial Cleanser
  • Makeup Brush Cleaner
  • Laundry Flakes
  • Clothing Stain Remover
  • Craft Object
  • Soap Carving
  • and many others
We (my daughter and I) actually went the crafting route with it since no one in the house typically uses bar soap for it's obvious purposes. I came across this crazy idea on the internet to throw the bar of soap in the microwave! It just sounded like a bad idea but so many people swore by it and even the Ivory folks said to give it a shot. Something in the Ivory Bar and only the Ivory Bar has a reaction when it's in the microwave which makes it start to grow. Forming what can only be described as a "soap cloud". I think it looks like meringue though too.
It was a little bigger than this but it fluffed down a little after cooling. I think it could have gotten bigger too if it hadn't gotten stuck in the corner of the microwave and I hadn't chickened out. I mean my husband was standing right there and the last thing I wanted him to have was the "remember the time you set the microwave on fire with soap" story to hold over my head for the next gazillion years lol. After it gets to this stage you can turn it into all kinds of stuff. I wish I would have had cookie cutters and food coloring on hand to make them into small personalized soaps for my 3 year old to give away as thank you gifts etc, but I will make sure to do it around Christmas time. We rolled ours up into a soap snow ball afterwards and I plan to use it to clean my makeup brushed now. For more ideas though you can check out the Ivory Soap website!

COPS ARE PEOPLE TOO, Believe it or not!

Why do people always forget that cops are people too? It's a crazy concept I know, but it's true! It's not their agenda to ruin your life. You may not have had bad intentions but the cop doesn't know you. How is the cop supposed to know that you are typically a decent person? They should give you the benefit of the doubt and risk it so their families can lose someone they love and their kids can go without a father (or mother) just so you can catch a break? Come on now, don't be so damn selfish.

Imagine day in and day out constantly having to be on guard. Always worried about your personal safety. So much so that even off duty you are still on guard in case you run into that not so decent person who is disgruntled over being caught before and might want to take it out on your family. That kind of stress takes it's toll on a person yet the police volunteer to do this so we can breath just a little easier taking our kids to the park and what not. And by the way, volunteering for something doesn't all of a sudden make those hardships go away. Just ask any soldier who has been to war, ask them if it was any easier going through that hell just because they knew their duty and signed up for it. I have a HUGE amount of respect for soldiers as well and I kind of think of cops as homeland soldiers if you will. Different in many ways but the same in so many others.

So the next time you wanna get out of sorts or start some sort of mob riot, think about it. There are ways to get your views and protests across without endangering those who are just doing their jobs to protect you the other 99% of the time when you are going about your life. I mean God forbid if your Mom or sister is ever being raped or your ever being attacked, who are you going to seek help from? I've never been very pro establishment or anything either by the way, but this is just common sense, cops are people with lives too. They aren't the big bosses or the law makers, just regular people doing their jobs trying to help the community and take care of their loved ones. I do also know that not all police officers are noble. I haven't forgotten that. Some do take liberties with their jobs, or even break the laws themselves. We cannot however let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Civilians aren't all perfect and neither are the police. It's just how it is.

And just a bit of advice a cop once gave me while being questioned and I thought he was being overly cautious since I was just a 23 year old girl alone, "I don't know if you are crazy or a serial killer, those people look just like everyone else, why would I take that chance?". Food for thought. NATO has got my tail feathers ruffled!

Pinterest Avocado Mac & Cheese

So there is this popular pin popping around Pinterest for an Avocado Macaroni & Cheese which I thought I'd give  a whirl. I mean I adore avocados and I live for macaroni and cheese so I figured this had to be perfect! The directions were easy enough and didn't require me having to buy too many out of the ordinary things which I liked.

I followed the directions to the letter except parts where they made some recommendations for substitutions. I did opt for the Monterey Jack Cheese vs. the Pepper Jack since I don't think the little kick would have gone over well with my mini me. I also left out the cilantro since in my opinion cilantro is the devil but I digress.

I should have really looked over the whole thing first and put two and two together. It basically ends up being like a vamped up guacamole pasta. I thought it was okay but I really don't think it went over too well with my other two consumers. It really did taste like guacamole on noodles. I think it has potential though. If I used a different stronger tasting cheese and maybe less avocado (can't believe I just said that). I dunno. I'll update if I decide to give it another whirl. Not sure though since this one took a good blow to my at home culinary reputation and yet I digress once again.

Influenster Love VoxBox

So I know this is a little late but I figured I'd post about this on here anyway. This is the Love VoxBox that I received FREE of any charges from Influenster. I just give my feedback and they give me awesome things. Win win!

So the products I received were some Truvia sweetner samples, KISS Nail Dress, Ghirardelli Creamy Devotion Chocolate, a Venus & Olay Razor, and some STASH Herbal Tea Bags.

I'll start of with the easy one...Truvia. Not a fan. I'm one of those people who cannot for the life of me get used to a sugar substitute no matter how natural or close tasting they get it to be. That being said there are people in my family who do enjoy it. So I don't think it's a bad product I just think I am a sugar junkie.

Next up is the Ghirardelli Creamy Devotion was AMAZING! The name is aptly titled. It was sooooo creamy and I had to fight the people in my house tooth and nail just to keep their grubby little hands off. It was fantastic and I highly recommend it for the chocolate lover out there.

The STASH Tea Bags were great too. There were 9 flavors which was nice. I love variety. There was only one flavor I didn't really care for which was the licorice one. I think with licorice it's a love or hate thing. I am unfortunately on the hate side of this debate, but all of the other 8 were fantastic. I love tea.

The Venus & Olay razor was nice. I typically use the Venus Trim Spa. I've never really used the kind that have the big moisture bar things so this was interesting. I did like it though. One of my only complaints would have to how you can't place a cover over the blade when you are done. I don't know that they could ever make one for it but oh well. The razor was super sharp and worked nicely so that's what matters in the end.

I saved the KISS Nail Dress for last. I really enjoyed this product. I tend to have nails that bend very easily so I either have to get a layer of acrylic put on top of my own nails or watch my nail polish chip away seconds after it dries. This product was nice. I think it would be perfect for special occasions or dates. The designs are not typically things you could do to your own nails normally too which makes them more special. They stay on pretty well and are easy enough to apply.  I'm a fan to say the least. Here is a pic of the ones they sent to me.

I thought this skit was hilarious!!! I love when they do the sports commentators Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink! "The Shining" line was obviously my favorite. Just had to share! I really hope they do more Stefon though. He is by far my favorite.

Game of Thrones Video Game

I just moments ago I received the newest copy of Game Informer Magazine in the mail. I'm pretty excited about this since I am currently out of games to play. I just finished PS3 Journey. A week before I completely finished FFXIII-2 with the exception of the Giant's Fist trophy. And 3 weeks before that I finished Skyrim. As you can see I am on a gaming high right now lol.

Anyway I was excited about this issue because it reminded me of the new Game of Thrones upcoming release (5-15-12). I adore the show and enjoy the books as well so I am excited for the game. But you know what that means...there are already books and a show? Can the game be any good? Most of the time with that lineup the game is just a pale shadow in comparison. I am really hoping it's not the case here.

In one of the former issues of the mag they talked in depth about what's going on with this game and they shed some glimmer of hope on the matter. They went with a lesser known developer who could give it some needed attention AND they gave it a whole new story angle. That way you won't just be playing out everything you already know. I like the idea so far. I just really hope it's decent enough. I am out of games at the moment and am really looking forward for something to quench my gaming thirst. I'll obviously write some feedback once I've played but if you know any good PS3 or Wii RPG's in the styles of Final Fantasy or Skyrim please let me know. I can't play the awesome PC ones out there because my silly computer just can't handle them. I'm going to be fixing that with my next computer purchase but that won't save me for now lol. SUGGEST!

PS- I am also excited for the DLC for "Harley Quinn's Revenge" after beating Arkham City quite some months ago. Love her and love that game so it should be fun!

Palmolive Fresh Sponge Review

Picture of everything included when it arrived :)

So I just wanted to put a little review up for the Palmolive Fresh Sponge dish soap. I received this complimentary from Colgate via Influenster. Influenster is a site which I a member of (anyone can join it's FREE btw). They occasionally send me free products to test out in exchange for my opinions. This time it was the Palmolive Fresh Sponge dish soap obviously.  You will see me post other reviews on stuff periodically so bear with me lol.
I really thought this soap was great since it basically did what the bottle said it would do. That doesn't happen too often. Its major claim is to keep your dish sponge smelling fresh longer, avoiding the yucky smell sponges sometimes get. It did. So yay for that. The sponge they included did indeed stay smelling better longer than normal. This wasn't a fancy sponge either. Super basic inexpensive variety. You can see it pictured above.
It has a great refreshing color which I liked. So many dish soaps are green and whatnot so the red was a nice change up. It smelled pretty good too.
Another claim it made was that it's tough on grease but not on your hands. It was great on grease but I cannot verify how extra soft it is on hands. I don't do a tremendous amount of dishes since I mostly just wash for myself and a toddler most of the time. It's kind of a 1-2-3 thing for me and I a moisturizing maniac. However, it did not do anything negative to my hands as far as I could tell so that's good too. I have a video review up on YouTube which I'll link to if you'd like to check it out and I'll put links to Influenster if you'd like to join (FOR FREE) and to the Palmolive page. Hope my review was helpful :)

Ugh! Time Magazine

So here is my take on this "Time Magazine" cover everyone is going on about:
It's genius. Time Magazine knew that they would get everyone talking about their mag if they put that RIDICULOUS cover out for all to see. It's there for shock value. To get reactions and everyone is playing into their marketing hands. So let's ignore it...wait...here I am talking about it lol. If you want to breastfeed forever in your creepy fashion then go ahead. Just keep it private OR don't get all huffy when people react. You know very well that it's not a common thing to do with a child that old, so deal with it. I'd think pumping is a better option for a child that old if you still wanted them consuming breast milk, but people screw up their kids far easier doing dumb stuff all the time and I guess breastfeeding is one of the lesser evils in that regard. So don't fall prey to marketing devils. They just want you talking about them. It's like fishing for compliments. Kind of annoying and not as genuine as a real reaction.
